Artistic Sailboats - Raenette Franklin - Artist
My love of the water began as a child when my family would spend all summer in a cottage on a lake in Michigan. My first job was as a life guard.
I began sailing as a windsurfer then progressed to sailboats. I now sail all summer on Lake Michigan and race with The Little Traverse Yacht Club. I own a J100 which I named "Courage, pictured here during the Rolex National Campionship. It has a PHRF rating of 93.
Our crew has progressed rapidly. We ended the season with three first places in a row, ahead the rest of the fleet by five minutes after correted time. Next season we will move up to race with the J105s. I am looking forward to the challange.
In the winter I sail on the Gulf of Mexico and various other places in the Caribbean. I got my bare boat rating in the British Virgin Islands. Last February I attended a week of J World Racing School in Key West.
In between, I race with The University of Michigan Sailing Club where I am a sailing instructor. We sail J15s and Lasers.
You can visit my blog at: http://raenetteadventure.spaces.live.com/ to read about about my adventures and view hundreds of my seascape pictures from the Mediterranean to the Pacific.

years as a commercial illustrator. I also exhibited in art
fairs. These
